A travelogue of sorts, GustavEnquist.com reflects upon why we travel and what we experience when going places. Travel photography and articles from a wide range of destinations and points of view, illustrate the highly interwoven world in which we live our lives and travel through every day, one way or another.
I seek to capture the passing of moments, to fix a place and time before it lapses into another. The image of a given instant and locality is a unique imprint of time and space, a sense of location within the flight of time, passing moments or years gone by. Seeing comes before words, and the photographer conveys a vision akin to that of a prowling spy or a fine arts painter, somewhere between childlike curiosity and the calculating forbearance of the hunter.
In every picture there is a story to reveal, a trace of history within a set of associations, languages, culture and social context. We look around to gather a sense of orientation, a glimpse of what our own position may appear like from another stance. A different light is shed on places and time as we travel. It accentuates the here and now, cause and effect, and offers a glimpse of the unique as well as the universal in a given place.
I find inspiration in the works of others, in music, literature, history, philosophy, science and visual art. I am curious how the present unfolds within the narrow passage between the past and future, the contrast between everyday life and the distinct moments that we cherish.
